Workshop tutors sought for Luminate festival
After a successful beginning last year, the Luminate festival will return to Canaan Downs this summer and the organisers are seeking tutors for workshops.
"Luminate is an earth-friendly festival of music, dance, art, creativity and sustainability," said festival co-ordinator Maia. "It will take place from January 30 to February 3 next year."
The festival will feature music with a world grooves flavour, including tribal rhythms, progressive, breaks, psytrance, house, dub, funk, folk, roots and soul.
"We'll have an inspiring line-up of performers from Aotearoa and from overseas," said Maia. "But festival-goers will have the chance to get truly creative and spontaneous as well. We'll also have workshops covering such topics as permaculture, dance and movement, flax weaving, poi, yoga, sacred geometry, the Mayan calendar, music and drumming."
Maia said that people interested in leading workshops at the festival should contact her. "We'll welcome people who'd like to share their skills and knowledge on a range of inspirational and educational topics," she said. "Everything from sustainable living to health and healing topics, music and arts."
Luminate aims to cater for families by giving free admission to under-twelves and providing circus skills workshops, face painting, storytelling and roving performers for younger people.
Earlybird tickets are available at Invisible in Takaka and online at the festival's website <www.nativeharmonics.co.nz>. They are $105 until 21 December then $125 until 1 February. Tickets bought at the festival gate will cost $150.
"We're a not-for-profit arts and cultural event with a focus on sustainability, education, zero waste and community participation," said Maia who can be contacted at luminate@nativeharmonics.co.nz.
