Four members of the Golden Bay writers' group have had poems and short stories published in the second publication of the Boulder Writers, whose members are based in both Nelson and Golden Bay.
Karen Brookes, Mona Randall, Aleida Cahusac and Tonie Watts contributed to the recent edition. All members write poetry, and most also write in other genres.
"We were invited to join the Nelson group some years ago and we get together quite a bit to give friendly criticism of our work. This time, we put our work forward after our group members had a look," Karen Brookes said.
The local group, which has been in existence for over 15 years, meets monthly at members' homes to critique each other's work in a friendly and encouraging environment.
Membership was by invitation only, said Mona Randall. "It is helpful to hear someone's criticism and there are some really experienced and clued-up people among us. We are a very friendly group and get on well."
Initially named the Faraday Group, Boulder Writers was formed in 1997 by Rosemary Purse, and guided by Kate O'Neill until 2000. The group's first book, Boulder Writers 1, was published in 2000.
The group has published in a wide range of publications and Golden Bay members have consistently achieved in the well-respected Bay Lit awards.
The launch of Boulder Writers 2 takes place at the Mussel Inn on Thursday 20 November, at 7.30 pm.
