Health centre options still under consideration

The Interim Management Group (IMG) of Golden Bay Integrated Health Services met on November 17 and considered several options for the location of an integrated health service.
Establishment manager Kingsley Fletcher said, "The initial evaluation, including a Tasman District Council report on the registrations of interest from owners of properties in and near Takaka, was presented. However additional information is needed from respondents and prospective developers to complete the process."
Options for additional space at the Golden Bay Medical Centre were being investigated, Mr Fletcher said. One option under consideration was the use of adjoining land for a small building consisting of two or three consultation rooms and an office. It was envisaged this would be a temporary two-year arrangement to meet current needs over the course of the integration project.
Mr Fletcher said in his report to the meeting that workshop activities for health services staff will lead to an understanding of the practicalities of integration and the resources that would be required.
"These workshops address functional relationships in health care and they will have a bearing on the shape and form of a future co-ordinated health service in Golden Bay," he said.
At the monthly meeting IMG chairman John Peters welcomed two Ministry of Health senior policy staff as observers. The advisors have been visiting Golden Bay to assess progress on the integrated health services project as part of their research into Ministry policy on supporting the development of rural multidisciplinary family health centres.
