The GB Weekly is in cyberspace.
Last week www.gbweekly.co.nz became the paper's web address and early indications are that our readers approve.
"I was genuinely impressed. It's clean and fresh, easy to navigate and the colour photos give The GB Weekly's image a great boost," said reader John Crocker.
Takaka company, Lucid Design, produced the website. Creative director Galen King said the project had been fun.
"Ever since I came to the Bay I have thought that it would be good to take The GB Weekly to the web," he said. "It has been a real pleasure to have been involved with that process."
The GB Weekly manager Marg Braggins said, "We needed to do it."
"The paper's purpose is to promote communication among individuals, families, organisations and businesses in the Bay - that's why we deliver a hard copy to everyone. But there's another whole world on the web. It allows us to communicate in different ways to a wider audience. People from the Bay who are away from home can keep up to date. Former residents who don't need a regular copy by subscription can check The Weekly from time to time. There are also lots of people who travel here, either as visitors or prospective residents. They do a lot of their planning and research on the net so being able to read The GB Weekly there will be useful to them too."
The website currently includes columns, articles and letters to the editor. Content is updated during the weekend following publishing day.
The website will be fine-tuned over the coming weeks and further development is likely in the future. People outside the Bay who want a copy sent to them on subscription need not worry. The paper will still be available that way. Contact details are on the website.
