A friendly bottle-nose dolphin has been seen around Golden Bay. It is often seen between Tata Beach and Taupo Point.
Nigel Marsden from Golden Bay Kayaks said, "Lots of our kayak customers have seen it. It's a solitary dolphin and loves playing with boats and kayaks and even swimmers. It often comes right up to the kayak and nudges it or latches onto the hull by turning upside down and hugging the boat with its flippers."
Nigel thinks the dolphin is the same one that was often seen in the Totaranui to Bark Bay area.
"It was well-known to the aqua taxis operators but it moved to Golden Bay a few months ago," said Nigel. "We're lucky to be able to get this close to such a beautiful animal." Neil Wilson
