GBHS athletes ready for competition.
Members of Golden Bay High School's Get2Go team looking relaxed in the week before taking off for their big adventure.
The team won a regional competition to earn the right to compete in the national finals at Great Barrier Island next week. The finals will be very challenging as they incorporate a wide range of outdoor skills that the team will have to demonstrate in trying conditions.
GB High School head of physical education, Stuart Grace, said that the team had done well to raise about $4000 in the short time they had between finding out they were going to the final and actually taking off.
"They've run a disco, washed cars, raffled firewood and catered at the motorcross events," he said. "Some individuals and firms have provided sponsorship and we got a grant from Pub Charity as well."
The GB Weekly will follow the team's exploits with interest and report on their achievements after they return.
