“Highest-ever gate-take” at the Bay’s A&P Show
The hugely popular Takaka Citizens’ Band.
Last weekend's Golden Bay A&P show was a huge success despite the inclement weather that arrived mid-afternoon, just before the grand parade.
A&P Association secretary, Brian Reilly, would not discuss his partial failure to bring about the perfect weather conditions he ordered for the day. Mr Reilly was, however, thrilled with the way the public supported the show.
"We were absolutely amazed with the result," he said. "We had our highest-ever gate-take. It was 20% higher than our previous best - that could equate to about 350 extra people. With the weather forecast predicting showers, we think everyone decided to get up to the show in the morning. We heard that about 60% of the Totaranui campers came over, which was great. The rain did make the grand parade a bit dampish and we had to wipe a couple of jumps, but we're thrilled with the way the show went."
Mr Reilly said that one theory behind the increased turn-out at the show was that more people are taking holidays within New Zealand because of the recession.
