New business: chalets at Snake Creek Road, Mangarakau

Wetland View Park is a new destination for those exploring the West Coast of Golden Bay. It can be found about an hour-and-a-half's drive from Takaka, one kilometre down Snake Creek Road, which is two kilometres past Mangarakau. Wetland View Park has two chalets that sleep five people each. Owners Sally Everett and Murray Gifford described some of the charms of the place.
"The chalets are an exceptional design made by Murray's brother-in-law up north," said Sally. "They're self-contained and fully serviced. They have a microwave, twin hobs, fridge, electric frying pan, kettle, toaster and all the cookware. But if people don't want to cater for themselves we can do continental breakfasts, picnic lunches and three-course home-stay dinners as well. They just need to let us know."
Guests can choose to explore the Mangarakau Swamp via its walkways, the Wanganui Inlet marine reserve or the northern West Coast beaches. Sally said that tourists wanting to get off the beaten track and enjoy spectacular scenery and natural attractions are their most likely visitors.
Sally and Murray say that they are delighted to share the wonderful place they live in and acknowledged the support they had received in getting their project up and running.
"The community out here is awesome," said Sally. "Friends and neighbours helped us with the chalets and we're thrilled."
