Wow! Brilliant! Superb!
A big, big thank you to everyone who exhibited a box in The White Room. You were viewed by a truly international audience with well over five pages of comments from all over the world. Golden Bay is such a creative community. It is very heart warming and fabulous to see people being involved with creation purely for the buzz of creating. Thanks guys, you're all fantastic.
The display will come down 6 February. Please come and collect your boxes any time that week.
Your very humbled and excited curators,
Toy Murchie and Kas Muller

Postponed Jerusalem talk
Back in October-November, I held a 6-week historical geography course on Israel/Jordan. The 35 participants had the choice of morning and evening time slots. This was a Biblical course with a difference, looking at the importance of the land's geography which makes up the ongoing history. Unfortunately, the last Monday of the course was the Monday of Takaka's November flood. The morning group continued with several fewer in number, but the evening group had to be postponed.
This coming Monday 9 February at 7.30pm, I will return to the last of the talks, focusing on Jerusalem. If there are others interested in coming along, feel free to join us in the Presbyterian Church, across from Golden Bay High School.

Pet bird deaths
Do you keep caged birds, particularly cockatiels? Have you had unexpected deaths or illnesses amongst them? Do you suspect the seeds/grains/seed-bells may be the cause? We have had this happen on more than one occasion and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience. If so please phone me on 525 9922.

Rototai community art projects underway
Hello! Are you out there? I know some are away and others are too busy; timing is everything at this time of year. Lots is happening along Rototai Road; come and see for yourself and join in the creative fun if you want to.
The mosaics are coming along well, although the weekend workshop with three tutors drew just three pupils in the heat. I hear folk are keen for lessons for home mosaic projects; this will be ongoing and done in the cool of evenings.
Chris Finlayson has sketched out the historic southern side of the Blyth shed mural at Rototai. You are all invited to participate during the next two weeks in the cool of the shaded mornings between 10am and noon. Please phone me on 525 7646 for set days, or simply turn up. We have 48 brushes and plenty of Resene paint at hand. No skills or experience required. It's a kinda paint-by-number thing. Hope to see you there.

Fireworks in Golden Bay
As we lay in bed late last night (Tuesday) listening to fireworks again, I reflected on last Saturday night on Pohara beach. With permit in hand, bonfire lit, fireworks lined up, sparklers fizzing and girls toasting marshmallows, we settled down to enjoy our evening. The fun didn't last long. We were approached by camp security. Seems a camper complained and said that one of our fireworks had hit her tent and was calling the fire brigade. "No way," we exclaimed, "they're pointing out to sea [seems the camper is known for complaining] and we have a permit." After three approaches by camp security, we were informed that the lady in the tent was now calling the police (and I thought the fire brigade were coming to put out the non-burning tent). The police did turn up but by then our evening was ruined.
So last night we listened to the fireworks at the back of our house and wonder if the police, camp security or fire brigade could turn up and stop their fun so that we can go to sleep because some of us have to get up in the morning and go to work!
