Thanks to the generosity of two local businesspeople, the Impact Youth Trust now has seven networked computers for after school and holiday-time use.
Carol Baker, a trustee of the Impact Youth Trust, explained that Mike Warn of Warn and Associates was replacing the personal computers in his office, and looked for a worthy local group who could make use of them.
“They weren’t much good to us as they were, straight out of an accountancy business,” said Carol. “But Dave Williams of Powerplay Enterprises agreed to set them up the way we wanted them. He completely rebuilt them for us and now we’ve got networked gaming set up. The kids who come here can also use the computers to do their homework. It’s about supervised access, really. I think it’s great that these two businesspeople were happy to help us out.”
The computers are currently housed at Carol’s home at 12 Meihana Street, but in time she hopes to have a dedicated facility where the Impact Youth Trust can have its headquarters.
Carol was primarily responsible for setting up the Impact Youth Trust earlier this year. She is a Youth Pastor with the Christian Church of Golden Bay but the trust is independent of the church.
“Our vision is to provide leadership, direction and resources which will benefit the youth of Golden Bay. We want to support their social, emotional, physical, spiritual and educational needs,” she said.
