“People tend to forget that we are part of nature too. These works are intended to help people to reconnect with nature and themselves.”
Golden Bay artist NgAng explains the thinking behind his latest exhibition, The Natural Beauty of America.
NgAng visited the US during our winter and says he “travelled 7000 miles through seven different states and visited seven national parks.”
“I was struck by the majesty of nature in the national parks, especially the Grand Canyon,” he says.  “It’s 277 miles long, a mile wide at its narrowest point and a mile deep. The scale of everything is awe-inspiring. The colours there reawakened me to the colours of the red rocks of south-western Australia.”
The exhibition consists of 20 works, mostly oils, and is open until the end of October at NgAng’s gallery in Rototai Road. “You can’t get the full force of it in its entirety through art; you’d have to go there yourself for that. I wanted to capture the essence, the spirit really, of nature. I kept the experience of the trip alive in my imagination once we got home through a slideshow, and then I’ve worked really hard to get the pieces finished.”
NgAng is inviting everyone from the US and also anyone who has visited there to a special viewing of the work on Saturday 10 October at 4pm.
