New art gallery opens in Takaka
Artist Kare Grayson.
Quirk, Golden Bay’s latest art gallery, opened its doors for business last Tuesday.
Situated in the grounds of Eatery on the Rock in the building that was formerly Gallery Z, Quirk is the brainchild of artist Kare Grayson, who will also be using the space as her working studio. The 33-year-old gained her degree in fine arts from the University of Otago and moved to Golden Bay two years ago.
With a theme of playful and bright, everything displayed at the opening was her work – from the 2D artworks to works in carved polystyrene, along with rock and glass bead jewellery and fabric art “meditation turtles” that she made to be sat on. Kare says that she would also be happy to hear from any other artists in the community who would like to share her space.
Quirk’s opening hours are noon to 6pm Tuesday to Thursday, and until 8pm on Saturday and Sundays.
