“Enuf is Enuf!” Solutions Rally to be held on the Village Green
The Poison-Free New Zealand Nationwide Protest Day will be held on Sunday 15 November.
This day is an initiative of the newly formed Poison-Free New Zealand group on Waiheke. Their goal is to achieve a ban on aerial dumping of all poisons in New Zealand. Concerns about recent aerial droppings on Rangitoto Island were the instigation behind this initiative.
Billy TK Sr has written and recorded a protest song called Enuf is Enuf, and it will be launched on the Protest Day at 4.05pm. Local radio station Fresh FM will preview the song on the Whanau Show tonight between 7 and 8pm, with host Daniel Judd.
Paul Cohen from Poison-Free New Zealand said, “Over the past few weeks we have set up the website www.enufisenuf.co.nz where a sneak preview of the video Enuf is Enuf can be seen. We have built up a strong network of people throughout New Zealand.”
At the last meeting of the Takaka 1080 group it was decided to focus on finding alternative solutions so group member Jerrie Edwards has co-ordinated a “Solutions Rally” on the Takaka Village Green on Sunday 15 November. There will be a banner and mask-making gathering starting at midday. Between 2 and 4pm there will be an open mic session with speakers, poets and musicians. There will be a bouncy castle for kids and Grillo will come and play.
“We also want to encourage people to share information and experiences, to have some fun and to show their love for nature,” said group member Sacha Horton. “There are prizes for the best dress-up, so please come as a possum or a bird or another bush creature. We’re working towards a mini-Mardi Gras-like event with the focus on our shared love for nature.”
Anyone interested in helping out, in speaking about their experiences and opinions or wanting to play music can contact Sacha on 021 044 4294 or Jerrie on 525 8768. Keep an eye on the noticeboard in Golden Bay Organics for more information or visit the website.
