Athletics equipment, coach training, records

Success and fun are the main ingredients in the continuing good-news story of the Takaka Amateur Athletics Club.
Three club members, Kirsty Richmond , Arlun Wells and Courtney Clarke, have attended expert coaching sessions in Wellington and their newfound knowledge can be seen at work every Monday club night.
The club also gained a Pub Charities grant to purchase some new equipment, and it is helping the new coaching regime to be implemented.
“The new gear provides game-based activities that help our athletes to improve the key skills they need,” said club stalwart Jim Nalder. “The kids do things they really like and all the time they’re practising things that make them better athletes.”
When The GB Weekly dropped in to the final club night before Christmas, the club members were recognising several impressive performances at the previous weekend’s Hesta Shield competition. Then it was down to some serious fun for athletes of all ages.
