Bay liquor outlets sign up for new protocol for “happy and safe venues”
People who cause trouble on Golden Bay’s licensed premises may find it a long, dry summer.
A new liquor protocol, signed by all of the Bay’s liquor outlets, means that a person barred from one establishment will not be able to go elsewhere to drink or buy takeaway liquor.
“The protocol is all about creating happy and safe hospitality venues,” said spokesperson Lex Taylor. “The venues that sign up to the protocol agree to play their part in making their venues pleasant and safe places to be. We’ll provide food at all times and we’ll make safe transport available. We also make it clear that we won’t allow people who are intoxicated to enter our premises.”
The protocol arose out of a bar managers’ refresher course attended by some hospitality industry representatives from the Bay. Lex said that he was pleased with the way other venues in the Bay had come on board.
“All the licensed venues in the Bay that have been approached, have signed up. That includes the supermarket and the liquor store, so anyone who is unwise enough to get barred under the protocol might have nowhere to go in the Bay to get a drink,” said Lex.
The protocol documents will be prominently displayed in all the venues.
