Ten local students and some of their supporters at the top of the Shenandoah Saddle on the second day of a five-day cycle challenge last week.

The experience was part of Golden Bay High School’s year ten end-of-year electives programme. The students are encouraged to choose an activity that will be physically challenging and rewarding.
Other elective trips went to Reefton, Westport, Marahau, Kaiteriteri, Nelson, and Hanmer. Activities included fishing, skateboarding, black-water rafting and mountain-biking.
The boys who went on the long-range cycle trip covered about 400km and stopped at Murchison, Maruia Springs and Hanmer. The support group included adult cyclists Richard Bayliff and Kevin Winter and support vehicle drivers Bronwen Billens, Patsy Garrett and Nikki Winter.
