Cries of “eat my dust” missing from regional motorcross champs

Last weekend’s Top of the South Motorcross Championships brought hundreds of riders and supporters to the Bay.
The very mixed weather conditions provided some serious challenges, as the photo on the right shows. Saturday’s conditions were especially testing for younger riders but organisers were very happy.
“In the days leading up to the champs we were worried about dust being a problem so I had a tankerful of water ready to dampen down the track,” said Shane Harwood. “We certainly didn’t need that after Friday and Saturday’s rain. It was great that the weather came out so fine for Sunday’s racing.”
The track at Motupipi was a very busy place, especially on Saturday, when washing down mud-caked bikes was an important pastime. Plenty of riders parted company with their machines in the very testing conditions.

“We’re his sponsors too,” said Craig from the relative comfort of the motorbike trailer where he and Julie were sheltering from Saturday’s rain.
