Slowing traffic in Takaka's CBD is an important issue.

How about Takaka as an innovative and unique town with a cobbled, landscaped 'mainstreet' for people rather than cars? How much better could it be for businesses and the community if people were encouraged to 'hang out' in town? I can imagine stylish landscaping flowing on from the village green, lots of seating, maybe a fountain, cafes and shops bustling, people promenading, families playing, old folk watching on, our teenagers visible and part of the scene. Towns of the future most likely won't have roads running through them - they will have people, bicycles, entertainment and enterprise at the heart, surrounded by cafes and businesses and, on the outer where it is much more suited, traffic and industrial areas. It just makes so much sense. "

  3. Tony Sandall says "In April 09 I made a submission to the Draft 10 Year plan as follows: The Takaka CBD has a narrow street which is also part of State Highway 60. It is dangerously busy. I suggest: 1. State Highway 60 be re-routed alond Motupipi and Meihana streets 2. Round-a-bouts be constructed at Telegraph corner and Reilly street intersection 3. A Bylaw be passed restricting heavy traffic (including large school buses) to hours between say 6pm and 8am The above should all come under Transport Safety Improvements. I received a nice letter acknowledging their receipt. And what's happened? Nothing. And probably won't until someone gets killed. "
