Mardi Gras
Thanks to the usual crew of hard-working people who were on the Village Green from 9am on Saturday to 2am on the Sunday morning, we had yet another very successful Mardi Gras where about 1,000 people of all ages enjoyed themselves. A big thank you to all of the entertainers both local, from Nelson and, in Sugra the Juggler's case, from Christchurch. If anyone has photos they took at the Mardi Gras either phone me at 525 8876 or email recreation@gbcw.co.nz
Could those responsible please return the hand-painted flags that adorn the Village Green to the Community Centre.

Community Chest fund raiser
The people of Pakawau are holding a Country Fair Community Chest fundraiser at the Old School Café on 21 February (22 if wet) from 2pm onwards. Gold coin entry and family-friendly races, outdoor bowls, pool competition, tennis, sausage sizzle and auction at 5pm. There are spaces for 10 car boot sales (booking necessary so phone Claire on 524 8789), $5 donation. Evening meals must be booked at the Old School Café on 524 8457 and there will be an open mic at night for all budding musicians. The community chest is a fund administered by the Community Workers to assist those in need when no other funding is available.

Multi-purpose community facility
I nearly spilled my latté when I read last week's GB Weekly. How can anybody, amidst this economic crisis, even think about a project like this "multi-purpose community facility"? The current catastrophic crisis (of which we haven't seen anything here yet) is caused by mountains of bad debts, created by a mix of greed, fraud, selfishness and just plain stupidity. Who wants to add to this (because that is exactly what this project would do)? Besides, it means again (as so often before) that I have to pay for other people's hobbies. Anybody out there to support my marble collection?

Collingwood Area House and Heritage Trail
Bainham Rural Women are organising this event for Saturday 7 March as a fundraiser for Collingwood Playcentre extensions.
Thanks to the generosity of the owners we have an exciting line-up of 10 or more new and renovated homes, guest houses and iconic historic homes. Included in the trail is an interesting new home that is completely self-contained with alternative sources of power, and also the lovingly restored home of pioneering midwife "Gran" Wigzell where so many older residents were born. This is an amazing opportunity to view private and unique properties.
Tickets are $20 (includes refreshments) and full information will be available from Monday 16 February at Langford's Store, Collingwood Tavern, Collingwood Post Shop, and Hammer Hardware. For further information ring me on 524 8132 or Lynne on 524 8272.

Uni-hockey
There will be no Wednesday uni-hockey at GBHS until further notice as the gym renovations are not complete.

Collingwood Summer Food Fair
More food and fun. Thanks to all who helped; too numerous to mention. More people. Thanks to those who came, all 700 or so. More funds raised.
