Three Takaka swimmers, Holly Johnson, Zack Gibbs and Kieran Levett (l to r in photo, are off to the South Island championships in a fortnight.
The three qualified by recording fast times at the recent Top of the South Age-Group carnival.
Holly (12) won a bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle, Zack (12) won silvers in the 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre breaststroke, and Kieran (13) won silvers in the 50 metre freestyle, the 50 metre breaststroke and the 100 metre breaststroke and a bronze in the 100 freestyle.
The championships will be held at the ASB Aquatic Centre in Richmond.
Holly, Zack and Kieran say they train as hard as they can but they are going to be held back by the lack of all-weather facilities when the summer finishes.
Coach Rob Arbouw said that the club’s top swimmers would really benefit from being able to train all-year-round in a covered pool.
“It doesn’t have to be a big pool; 10 to 15 metres would be fine,” said Rob. “I wonder if there’s one in the Bay that the owners wouldn’t mind lending to these keen athletes.”
