Water restrictions decision deferred

Water restrictions decision deferred
After some helpful rain last week, Tasman District Council has deferred the introduction of water restrictions.
The council’s dry weather taskforce convenor Dennis Bush-King said that river and groundwater levels in the Waimea Plains had continued to drop and without last week’s rain there would have been a move to restrictions from this week.
“We are taking a cautious approach, but have held off restrictions to avoid putting them on and then removing them as that can be confusing. We still urge people to conserve water and use it wisely,” Mr Bush-King said.
The Anatoki continues on Stage 1 restrictions but the Cobb Power Station has resumed generation so is releasing water again for Takaka River users.  Any rain will help these situations as well Mr Bush-King said.
The Dry Weather Taskforce was to meet again last Tuesday to review the situation.
