Takaka’s children and youth librarian Doris Sadlowksi and Batman are presenting the children of Central Takaka School Summer Reading Programme folders, filled with a book to keep, a medal and a certificate.
This year’s reading programme “Super Heroes Read” has been a roaring success with 81 of 83 enrolled children aged between 5 and 12 years finishing the programme.
“We always have a very high completion rate in the district,” says senior librarian Tish Potter. “Collingwood Area School had the biggest number of children attending to date and a big applause must go to all the parents who kept the children busy reading and brought them into the library for their check-ins with the librarians.”
Doris said, “A big thank you also must go to Batman who willingly made time to visit the children at all the schools with me during last week. We hope that the crime rate hasn’t doubled in Golden Bay because of this engagement,” says Doris.
The Home School Group will receive their folders on 25 March at the library.
In a heroid reading increase, children’s  and youth literature isssues have gone up 48 per cent compared to the same month last year.
