Sean Riordan’s travel fund boosted by local support
Last weekend’s fundraising golf tournament and related activities will assist Takaka’s Sean Riordan to try his golfing talents on the world stage later this year.
Sean hopes to improve his world ranking by competing in tournaments in the northern hemisphere during our winter. The Takaka Golf Club ran the tournament and gave the entry money to Sean’s travelling fund. There were novelty fundraising ideas associated with the tournament and an auction at the end of the day helped raise more money.
In all, about $9000 has been raised so far, and Sean says that he is really encouraged by the backing he has received form his home town. Anyone wanting to contribute to the fund should contact the golf club.
“It’s not just about the money,” Sean said. “When I go overseas to play in these big tournaments I can go with confidence. Knowing how much support I have back here is just great.”
Sean said that he is excited about the overseas trip that begins on 26 May. Though he is away playing the North Island Amateur at Muriwai on the North Shore, he said his focus was starting to shift towards the British Amateur, which will be the first tournament he plays on his trip.
“It’ll be good,” he said, adding that sponsors and the readers of The GB Weekly will be kept up to date with his results.
