Culling ducks and .....
The Western Australians stopped slaughtering ducks some 25 years ago and left it to nature to cull them; as far as I know, they have not been overrun with ducks. After the duck and orange sauce dinner, what happens to the rest of the victims, I wonder?
The cruelty to animals across the globe at all levels, particularly in modern factory farming practices and in domestic pets, is unforgivably inhumane. This must soon come to an end.
As for this human animal, we are the most abusive to ourselves, and I see the culling well underway through this Tamiflu and ordinary flu vaccinations, along with resulting follow-up drugs to treat their side effects. What a sad way to go, for those who choose to be rounded up like sheep for the drenching.

Golden Bay Project Crimson rata tree distribution
Thank you once again to all the generous people in Golden Bay who have planted and looked after northern rata trees provided by Project Crimson.
This is the 11th year that rata trees will be available for distribution within Golden Bay. If you wish to have trees to plant as part of your revegetation project please let me know by the end of May (phone (wk) 525 8378, (hm) 525 7651).
Priority will be given to projects on public land or on private conservation covenants.
Northern rata trees need plenty of room as they will grow large. They need a sunny site with well-drained soil that is not too frosty. They will need weeding for the first few years and possibly watering if it’s a dry summer. They will also need protection from hares and possums.

Word month
The arts council would like to hear from schools, individuals or organisations who would like to contribute to or take part in a celebration of words later this year. Last year we included spoken, poetry readings, Bay Lit, street word art, word puzzles and a documentary on Hone Tuwhare. Please contact me (525 9556) if you wish to be included in the programme for extra publicity, if you have some good ideas or if you would like to help out.

Thank you
May we express through your columns the sincere thanks of the members of Golden Bay Returned Services Association to residents of Takaka and surrounds for their generosity when making donations on Poppy Day and Anzac Day. Over $3000 will be applied to the welfare of all returned personnel in need of financial help, whether or not they are members of RSA. Even in the current difficult economic times Golden Bay people were able to think of others who may no longer be able to fully care for themselves. For this we are most grateful.

answers to quiz
Obviously answers 1,2,3,4 are 20 kmph. 5) is a big NO and truck drivers say this is a real problem in Golden Bay.
