Business: Mondo Travel and That’s A Wrap
Monzo Travel
Mondo means “world” in Italian, and the world is now more accessible from Takaka. After ten years without one, Golden Bay gained a travel agency last week when Mondo Travel opened its new office.
Travel specialist Paula Miles says her office, a branch of Mondo Travel Motueka, joins the growing number of franchised travel agencies with that name (15 to date) that have opened around New Zealand.
“They represent a breath of fresh air in the industry,” she says. “As well as offering all the usual domestic and international deals, we are affiliated to some top travel companies that offer excellent products.”
Motueka owners Phil and Jane Harris have operated Mondo in the Bay for some time now, with an agent travelling to Takaka on a fortnightly basis. But because so many people are regularly using the service, they decided to put in a permanent office here with a fully-computerised system that links in to the international travel industry network. Mondo has also introduced an online product in recognition of the public use of the internet for research and travel.
Explains Paula; “We see this as complementing rather than detracting from the personal service provided by our travel stores. A lot of people like to do their initial research on the net, then come to a travel agent to finalise everything. It gives them peace of mind.”
You’ll find Paula in her Mondo office at 41 Commercial St, beside the Village Green, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons to begin with.

That’s A Wrap
Veronica Evans likes kebabs and she’s sharing her healthy takeaway option with diners in Golden Bay,
Veronica’s business, That’s A Wrap has been operating for about eight weeks in the Commercial Street caravan that used to house Golden Fries. “I’ve been in business before, and I like the idea of being my own boss,” said Veronica. “Kebabs are a healthy takeaway option because of the way they’re cooked and the fact that they include a salad. They’re very quick too. If things are going well, I can make a kebab in 30 to 40 seconds. People like that, because when they decide they’re going to have kebabs for tea, they’re usually hungry already.”
That’s A Wrap offers three kinds of kebabs – beef, chicken and vegetarian – but customers are welcome to mix these ingredients to their own taste. There are also nine different garnishing sauces to choose from.
Veronica said that she was ready for the winter slow-down in the takeaway food trade in Golden Bay. “Things do go a bit quiet in the winter,” she said. “But I’m here on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4.30 till 7.30 to serve locals and visitors. I’ve noticed that I’ve picked up quite a few regulars amongst the locals and it’s always nice to see them coming back for their favourite kebab and sauce.”
You can phone your order in to That’s A Wrap on 525 8887.
