Burglary arrests follow good public information

Two men appeared in court on Tuesday this week, charged with recent major burglaries in Takaka.
They were apprehended the previous Thursday. Goods in their possession and at the house they were occupying linked them to burglaries of Takaka residences in the last fortnight (GBW 12/6/09).
Sergeant Arthur Clarence of the Takaka police said that the two men, one aged 18 and the other 26, are from Motueka.
“We’re very pleased to have cleared up these offences so quickly,” he said. “It’s great to be able to return so many of the stolen goods to the victims, especially things you can’t replace, like jewellery. We are especially grateful for the good call we got from a member of the public. She took note of what was going on and phoned us.”
The Takaka police are now working their way through the paperwork associated with the arrests. They have processed and executed 10 search warrants and a number of affidavits. The paperwork has meant that staff have had to come back to work on their days off, but they are pleased that the quick result has offered Golden Bay residents reassurance.
