Ten beginner quilters enjoyed a full day’s tuition and encouragement last Saturday and had the chance to come away with a completed quilt.
The Golden Bay Community Arts Council ran a “Make a Quilt in a Day” course, with the support of Creative Communities funding. The participants brought a range of sewing experience and design ideas to the course. Tutor Ann Lewis, from the Golden Bay Patchworkers’ and Quilters’ Guild, said that she was impressed with the results.
“I think it was very enjoyable and encouraging. Everyone felt that they’d achieved something,” she said.
Some of the participants felt that the course offered them the chance to take up quilting as a regular pastime and said they were looking forward to joining in with the guild’s regular monthly meetings and producing more quilts.
“Quilting rocks,” said course participant Abby Gilligan.
