The Golden Valley Country Music Awards celebrated its 20th anniversary in style last weekend.
On Sunday afternoon a capacity crowd enjoyed the finals concert in the Pohara Hall. Plenty of Golden Bay performers featured in a variety of finals categories.
Awards organiser Judy Ray was delighted with the anniversary event and performers from near and far spoke highly of the great atmosphere they always enjoy at the Golden Valley Awards.
“The whole thing was just fantastic,” said Judy. “We cut a birthday cake at the social on Saturday night and we had a big crowd along. There were more people again on the Sunday and everyone said what a great event it was – people in the audience and contestants and judges. They keep coming back and entering and supporting us so we’ll be going another 20 years and more.”
The good representation of local performers had great success. According to Judy, every local entrant won a prize of some description. A name for the future is Jarrod Thomason (5) who won the Junior Novice Under-Nine section as well as a special prize for being the youngest competitor in the whole awards event.
