Vibrant, funny and interesting
I enjoyed immensely the programme presented by Tui and Millie on Fresh FM on Friday. It was vibrant, funny and interesting. Their choice of music wasn’t too bad either! Thanks to the regular Fresh FM team for using some new voices on the show. It was great local radio.

Whale watching
I would like to thank Sandra and Ken Closs from Te Hapu, and Lone Star Farm at Paturau for allowing my family and hundreds of others to drive and walk across their private land to view the very smelly whale at the weekend. How lucky we are to have friendly landowners, who allow the general public access over their land. We do appreciate it.
The whale is disappearing fast due to the action of the sea, the rotting process, and people hauling its bones away.

Port Golden Bay (Tarakohe Harbour)

The council’s Newsline Update (GBW 29/5) talks of “...the design and development of a marina...at Port Golden Bay (Tarakohe Harbour)”.
Who has decided this change in nomenclature? Has there been any consultation, particularly with local iwi? What is wrong with good old plain Tarakohe anyhow? When did the name Golden Bay originate? Who ‘invented’ that? Does anyone want Port Golden Bay anyhow?

Ligar Bay licenses to occupy
The licenses to occupy land on road and esplanade reserve at Ligar Bay are due to expire in March 2014. Having received approaches from occupiers of buildings on this land and from other Ligar Bay landowners, the Community Board has resolved to hold a meeting of interested persons on Tuesday 23 June 2009 in the Pohara Hall commencing at 7pm. The board has requested copies of papers relevant to the occupation of the land from TDC in time for the meeting.
Ligar Bay property owners will receive an individual notice of the meeting.
If there are others who have an interest in this area and would like to be present, they are most welcome to attend. Survey forms are also available at the TDC Golden Bay Service Centre

Dog control in Takaka

Tasman District Council is currently undertaking a review of the district dog control bylaw. Proposals include changing the designation of Commercial Street, Takaka between Motupipi Street and Reilly Street from a ‘no dog’ area to a ‘leashed dog’ one.
The board has received approaches from members of the public regarding a range of issues relating to dogs, and has resolved to canvass business owners within the above designated area to ascertain their views of the change.
If other Golden Bay residents would also like to make a submission on this aspect or any other matters which need to be considered as part of the dog bylaw review, they are urged to do so. Details are available on www.tasman.govt.nz and/or from the TDC Service Centre together with survey forms from the latter.
Submissions close on 30 June 2009.
Joe Bell, chairperson, Golden Bay Community Board
