  1. Kali says "Covered and heated, but not chlorinated."

  2. Siwel says "It would be a great activity for kids after school. "

  3. John Lee says "1.what's wrong with the sea? 2.how many people really need such a pool, rather than just want it? 3.Are there no other facilities really needed? 4. Where can we find the full report on facilities?"

  4. Susie Kelly says "As newcomers to GB from Wellington, this is one facility that we would love to see in this wonderful place. Being able to swim all year round (...and I am sorry I do not espouse the comments about the sea being a substitute...even with a wetsuit not even the most devout of swimmers can brave it at the moment!...) would benefit everyone regardless of age. Consider some of the physical and psychological benefits: good exercise-swimming involves the use of almost all muscles; swimming stimulates circulation, promotes proper breathing; swimming helps to combat the aging process; is beneficial for pregnant women; swimming reduces stress and gives a heightened sense of wellbeing. The list goes on. Consider also the sociological benefits-teenagers off the streets; enhancement of water safety awareness; low cost exercise for all and a year round community meeting place. Swimming is a healthy activity that everyone should be able to do year round for a lifetime. Swim on! "

  5. Galen says "A heated indoor swimming pool would be fantastic for children as it could be used right through winter. The rivers and ocean are wonderful but not the easiest places to teach a child to swim—and they're not much fun in the winter!"

  6. Neil says "A heated swimming pool would be nice, there's no doubt, but there are more pressing needs and the poll asks what is 'most needed'. We have an i-Site, a museum, a live performance venue and a community centre with acknowledged shortcomings that cannot be met by renovating existing halls. We also lack a youth facility. One new building cannot answer all those needs but, if it addressed some of them, it could make a real difference to the way we live in this community. The report also mentions a possible domino effect whereby organisations whose circumstances are not directly improved by a new building could move into one of the old ones that has been vacated. I think we need a purpose-built facility."
