Guide to Artists brochure 2010 calls for listings
A new edition of the Guide to Artists in Golden Bay 2009 brochure, promoting local arts and crafts, is in the making.
Artists are invited to contact the organisers if they want to be represented in the brochure, skilfully put together by a volunteer committee of three artists, Philly Hall, Toy Murchie and Jenny Heath, with editor Merryl Coke.
The guide has been published as a booklet for the last three years and is distributed throughout the Top of the South Island. The last brochure represented 38 artists, and 20,000 copies were distributed among all the visitor centres from Blenheim to Farewell Spit and as far south as Murchison, and also through the art and craft studios around the Bay.
The brochure gets results too, says weaver Maureen Harte of Wild Sands Weavings at Pakawau, who has been listed in the guide for the last two years.
“I had several occasions when people came here through the artist guide. Often it’s a combination of various advertising means, but people definitely do refer to the artist guide. It’s well presented and I feel it is really accessible and the cost of being in there is reasonable.”
Committee member and gallery owner Philly Hall said the guide aims to showcase the diversity of Golden Bay’s vibrant artist community. Depending on space, it also lists cafés displaying art work.
“It gives good exposure, as most visitors to the Bay pick up a booklet at the i-site or in my shop or at Artisans, and artists also have brochures in their studios. The booklet puts people and their art out there and gives examples of people’s work, which attracts visitors to the artist.”
The booklet has a map of Golden Bay in the middle, making it easy for people to navigate between artists and studios. The current format gives artists choices regarding the size of their advertisement: either a full page, a third or three quarters of a page.
The deadline for listings is approaching fast. Contact Jenny Heath immediately on 525 8540 or <heathcroft@paradise.net.nz> if you would like to be included.
