Tango the winter blues away
For a fun winter night out, make the most of the visit by Argentinian tango dancers David Palo and Tamara Bisceglia, who will give a workshop on this sensuous dance.
The workshop is a rare opportunity to experience the essence of Argentine tango, says organiser Reto Balzer. Reto and his partner Vera have attended classes in Nelson with the tutors, and came back mesmerised and inspired by their skill and style.
“We are addicted. Just watching them demonstrating simple moves is worth the money, let alone their professional tuition and sense of humour. If you have never danced tango before, this is for you, and if you have, you will know that you can’t do enough of basic lead and follow and posture, as this is the key to tango.”
David and Tamara travel the world as professional tango instructors and performers. They teach the technique and structures that lie at the heart of tango movements, give detailed explanations, reveal the origin of the many figures and show how to combine the various elements. Tonight they will be teaching a 1½-hour class followed by a “practica”, where participants can practise the new moves or improve on what they already know and get tips and pointers from the tutors. They are also available for private lessons this afternoon.
The workshop will be today at the Takaka Primary School Hall at 7pm. The lesson and practica cost $20 per person.
Tango instructors David and Marie Bagshaw will also attend the workshop. They run Tango: Passion in Nelson, organise tango holidays to Buenos Aires and invite world-class teachers for workshops.
To book for Friday night, contact Reto Balzer on 525 8663, and for private lessons on Friday afternoon call David Bagshaw on 03 548 2602.
