Major capital works at the Takaka Aerodrome would be a good investment.

  1. Doubting Thomas says "I'm a bit sceptical. Does Golden Bay Air use the right kind of aircraft for Takaka Aerodrome? Will TDC see the value of investing money in this facility? How much growth is there in the local market?"

  2. forward thinking says "Golden Bay is an isolated area, so I think that upgrading our aerodrome would enhance transport options for locals and for those who travel here on a regular basis - only if it works as a business model for the council, the two air businesses and the club. Air travel is an expensive travel option so we can't ask everyone to subsidise it through the rates."

  3. Golden Bay at Heart says "If it costs about $40 in fuel, $10 (and I'm being generous) in car wear & tear, 2 hours driving to go from Takaka to Nelson. All just ONE way. If it would cost $5 to park your car at the aerodrome all day, $99 (or less) return for a flight to Nelson and back that takes, what, 20 minutes? Surely this is economic sense for any business commuters in the Bay, or even, if marketed properly, regular type folk that just wants to get to Nelson for the day. This would be just the option needing to assist the Bay with tackling the 'Hill' alternative. Also. The increase in tourist numbers (which means, tourist dollars) brought into the Bay if the cost was reasonable and the timings regular. Don't do a Nelson (water treatment plant, St Vincent Street highway) and fail to act for the future. "

  4. Galen says "It would be fantastic for business in the Bay if there were more regular flights in and out of Takaka and to a greater range of places such as Christchurch and Nelson."
