Great year ends for netball club

“Netball’s a very important thing for the women of Golden Bay,” said Golden Bay Netball Association president Cherie Chamberlain at the recent closing of the 2009 season.
Cherie said that there was a place in netball for anyone who wanted to be involved and plenty of women of all ages took the opportunity again this season.
“I think our youngest players were 10 and I’m pretty sure our oldest ones are over 50,” said Cherie. “The greatest thing about the local competition has been watching so many players improve their skill levels through the input of coaches at all levels.”
From the association’s point of view, the highlight had definitely been the performance of the representative teams in their annual fixture with Motueka, Cherie said.
“I’ve been involved for a lot of years,” she said, “and this is the first time for ages that we’ve cleaned up the fixture. The Senior, Under-17 and Under-15 teams all had great wins and the Under-13s drew. It was a great achievement.”
