Eleventh Lip Sync Raises $4000
Hamish Clark and Benji Wick as The Flight of the Conchords
Golden Bay High School’s eleventh annual Lip Sync pulled big crowds last week.
Rhys Kerr and Logan Vickery’s camped-up rendition of Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing won the judged award. Benji Wick and Hamish Clark’s version of the Flight of the Conchords’ Inner City Pressure won the peoples’ choice title.
The two-night event, featuring 12 acts from students and one from the staff, raised about $4000 for the school’s library.
“It’s fantastic,” said librarian Yvonne Whiting. “It was an absolutely fabulous night. I really enjoyed it. The kids are just brilliant. We can buy plenty of books with that amount of money. The students like to have a say about what goes on the shelves and I might even be able to get replacement copies for some of our tired and well-loved books. It’s a thrill to pick up a book and see the plaque inside that says it was bought with the proceeds of Lip Synch.”
