The Government should reverse its decision to cut the Adult and Community Education budget by 80%

  1. Neil Wilson says "The budget cut is a serious mistake. The Government does have to make some savings in the current situation but this is not a sensible place to make savings. New Zealand gets real returns, tangible and intangible, from the money spent on ACE. It's especially important in isolated rural areas like Golden Bay. The Government got an unexpected divvie from Mighty River Power and I think they should spend it on ACE."

  2. Chris Mitson says "The truth is that a government largely composed of people of privilege has no idea of the social and mental health value of Adult Community Education, especially in remote areas like Golden Bay. The dismissive and disrespectful description "hobby classes" shows a failure to grasp the importance of people {especially older people) having an opportunity to pursue an interest, extend their social circle - and make use of expensive community facilities (schools) which remain empty and unused once the kids go home. While greedy cabinet ministers see nothing wrong in rorting thousands of dollars housing allowances, you might ponder if cutting ACE funds is the best place to save money."
