Increased numbers of trade stalls and very good levels of entries in the booth augur well for the annual Golden Bay A&P Show this Saturday.
Association secretary Jean Wedderburn said that, in a sign of confidence in the rural economy, 115 trade stalls had been registered.
“This is well up on last year’s number,” said Jean. ”There’ll be a great variety of things for people to see.“
Jean also said that a wool-handling competition had been added to the activities at the shearing stand and that a baleage wrapping display would take place in the main arena at 2.30pm.
In the booth where great competition takes place in  dozens of different classes, entries are on a par with last year’s good numbers.
“The photography section just keeps growing,” said Jean. “We’ve been told that the standard of photography is very high at our show, so that possibly attracts more entries.”
Jean took over as secretary of the A&P Association this year when Brian Reilly stood down.
“It could have been a bit daunting following in Brian’s footsteps because he has done such a great job for a very long time,” said Jean. “But he has handed over such excellent records that the job has gone very smoothly.”
Jean has been keeping an eye on the long-term weather forecast, especially since the widely held belief that “it never rains on Show Day” proved inaccurate last year.
“A dry, calm, warm day would be just ideal,” she said.
