Tukurua Campground Road not a State Highway
I’ve lived on Tukurua Road for 3+ years now, and enjoy regular walks, jogs, and cycles with or without my four-year-old daughter, who is learning to ride her bike.
We safely and confidently use the road all year except for when we like to use it most – in summer, when we avoid it altogether.
For two months of the year this road is as busy as the highway and just as dangerous, despite the 30km per hour speed limit. Only a tiny percentage of drivers follow this limit while others speed up to as much as 70/80km/hour.
Please campers, respect our little community and adopt the slow-paced lifestyle you’ve come to Golden Bay on holiday to enjoy. I’m sure you would appreciate the same on your own doorstep. There is no need to speed.

Paynes Ford to East Takaka cycleway/walkway
Working bee: Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January and also the following week Saturday and Sunday. Karl Thompson has done a wonderful job of digging out the tree stumps and forming the basis of the track. This weekend we would like to start the manual bit of making the track. If you are available, even if it’s only for a few hours, then please come and give Theron and myself a hand.
Come down the East Takaka Road and about half a kilometre from the cutting is Jamie and Andrea Ward’s place on the right. We’ll meet at 9am both days, but if you come later there will be signs to follow to take you to the river bank. If you have a grubber, lopper or shovel then bring them along. If you haven’t, then just bring yourself (and a friend) along. Hope to see you there at some stage.

Gardens of Abundance
Yields can be abundant in large or small home gardens. New or accomplished gardeners are invited to our Pohara Valley garden for a no-fee (optional koha) one-hour guided tour.
Learn about primary principles of garden inputs/outputs, misplaced/replaced resources and multilevel/multivarious integrated low-cost gardening. This session will provide the basics you need to increase your yields or start your garden of abundance. Questions welcome.
By harvesting a large portion of your veges, fruit, nuts and herbs, you save money and help the planet, you know exactly what you’re eating, and your health can improve. In the garden you can observe natural cycles and feel relaxed and nearly carefree.
Our garden won first prize for sustainable, self-sufficient garden in this summer’s GB Garden Competition.
The date is Saturday 30 January 4-5 pm. If wet, same time Sunday. Please ring 525 8448 for more information or to book. Limited places, but additional sessions can be planned if needed.

Stolen mirror
Just before Christmas our little mirror got nicked out of the wheelchair toilet. If there is anybody who received a pink, light blue and green mirror with flowers and a toucan as a present, it has been stolen from us. Should you, the thief, still have it, may your ugliness look at you out of the mirror.
