Timeless Creations building

BIG thank you to all good People of Golden Bay, all love and support. Timeless Creations is bit singed to say the least  but will rise from the ashes. It has been a major se back just as season about to start!! We had a huge number of events booked and were ready to go. All my Angels had been working so hard to get huge levels of stock up and working on new products, only to be destroyed in a blink of an eye by callous act of arson!!! That was 10 years of my life’s work getting to this point. There have been lots of tears and grief, but I will be stronger for it all. It will take some time to sort insurance out. Don’t think of a scenario of total devastation!!!
Big thanks to the Drummond family who have offered me the old RSA building so I have a new focus to get started again. Others to thank, Lisa and Odessa. Their grief was great and hard on them personally. Hurts so much that side of this tragedy. Thanks to Sollys for pulling old machines out (they are totally destroyed). Sorry for their recent loss to fire, very hard to cope with.
The only luck is that I had an old machine in storage but is incomplete and flying bits in from Germany. It doesn’t have the speed of the other ones BUT it’s a start!!
If anyone would like to help the rebuild proccess, Shane Johnston has quickly redone my website, so you can donate via that. Thanks, Shane, true friend and good person.
Maurice Massey, Timless Creations Golden Bay

Barry Cashman (GBW 8/10) is right. The loss of the old library and the assets of Timeless Creations is a tragedy. Community thoughts are with Maurice Massey and the staff.
Mr Cashman then opined on the site’s future and sought a new building. The fact is that rent from the old library was being used towards servicing the loan for the new Takaka Memorial Library. The building was insured for about $360,000. We are advised the insurance can be used for a lump sum repayment on the loan.
The footprint of the old library building would make a sensible addition to the rose garden reserve.
During the 2007 Community Board Conference in Manukau we had an informative talk from safety expert Inspector Tony Lake from Queensland Police. He advised that communities need to be aware of “loitering places” in reserves similar to the area immediately behind the old library.
We also need to ask if TDC should be in the business of building and renting commercial property in competition with ratepayers.
In the aftermath of the tragic loss these are some of the issues which need to be taken into account by Golden Bay in deciding the best possible community outcomes.

Shifting in a frame

Over the past three years, two artists, besides myself, have placed their work into the picture frame on the exterior of Monza Gallery, Commercial Street. To the delight of locals and visitors in the Bay, the “Shifting in a Frame” project adds another notch to features of our township and a reputation as a vibrant community.
I am a bit puzzled though that not more artists have responded in the past two years. There is an opportunity for two more locations in town. One is a smaller frame size than Monza and located outside a café. The other is larger (small mural size) on the side of a shop where the picture could be changed every year or so by individuals or groups.
I’m wondering now, “what is the point”, unless more artists step forward and express an interest in coming outside to play. “So what” if the work doesn’t sell? It’s about challenge, public experience and expanding our environment of thinking.
Timber panel and paints would cost around $150. Even old house paint is OK. Art is serious but it’s got to be fun too.
Come on artists, schoolteachers and senior students, let me know your interest. chris@finlaysonart.co.nz.

Motocross noise

In response to contributor John Salmon.
1. I was invited to a meeting with the Mayor, co-ordinator regulatory compliance (environment and planning) and two councillors in my capacity as recreation/leisure commissioner, Motorcycling New Zealand Inc; I am also vice president of the NMCC, a committee member for the Nelson A&P Association and a member of many other organisations and associations. To describe the meeting as a “huddle” belittles the time, energy and resources that are being utilised in trying to come up with a workable solution for a rural noise issue in Golden Bay.
2. “The TDC Code” reference needs to be in context. The full statement reads: “The TDC ‘Code’ was the result of over a year’s work by Nelson Motor Cycle Club members, including over 2,200 submissions and 200 pages to the Tasman District Council. People who don’t play by the rules are endangering ALL our riding rights in the District, so play fair and help keep what we still have available!”
The emphasis of this statement is to encourage people to do the “right thing” and abide by the code.
3. Councillor Trevor Norris is not a member of the NMCC, neither are the Mayor or any other councillors, and to state otherwise is not the truth.

Motocross noise and gaming machine numbers

Your correspondent John Salmon (8/10) should be very careful before he makes misleading and defamatory statements in print. I challenge him to disclose the source of his so-called “huddle” accusations and publicly apologise for his comments “NMCC member Councillor Trevor Norris”.
I am not and never have been a member of the NMCC. If not, he should be prepared to face the consequences.
I also wish to correct a statement made in letters to the editor by Mayoral candidate Victoria Davis that the Tasman District Council had “failed” to cap the number of gaming machines in the district. If she had checked the minutes of the meeting she would find that this is exactly what the committee did. “Capped at present numbers.”

Local body elections

Thank you Golden Bay for your tremendous vote of confidence in me.  I’m so looking forward to representing you at Tasman District Council.
Huge thanks also to my fellow councillor Noel Riley who first encouraged me to consider running, and Stuart Borlase who supported me by sharing information and trips over the hill to check out the lay of the land in Richmond. And to Victoria Davis, our first brave mayoress prototype, for breaking the ice – excellent job! I admire everyone who put themselves up for our election; it takes guts to stand and weather the force of a community’s scrutiny.
I’m very optimistic about our collective future and look forward to positive working relationships with you who have voted for me, the community board and council.
Onward and upward!
Martine Bouillir

My heartfelt thanks to all who supported the changes I was offering to the leadership of TDC.I feel it is imperative for us all to make submissions asking for more delegated authority for community boards. The Local Government Commission has started the review process and will make decisions on local governance based on our submissions. You can email your submission to <info@lgc.govt.nz> or write to CEO LGC, PO Box 5362, Wgtn 6145.
Best wishes to Martine and Noel and our community board for a great three years ahead for Golden Bay.
Victoria Davis

Annual plan meetings

Coming to a hall near you. The community board will be undertaking annual plan consultation and welcomes hearing what issues are affecting you, and what if anything, needs to be addressed. Any issues - rates, rivers roads, recreational facilities - this is your opportunity to be heard at the planning stage. By having these meetings early we ensure inclusion of Golden Bay’s priorities in the draft annual plan.
Bainham 18 October, Collingwood 19 October, Onekaka 21 October, Pohara 22 October, Service Centre 26 October, East Takaka 1 November, Pakawau 3 November.
Hope to see you there.

Children’s second-hand clothing and toy sale

Our now famous second-hand sale (in Takaka anyway) is on again. Golden Bay Toy Library will be having its twice-yearly second-hand clothing, book and toy sale on Saturday 13 November at the Senior Citizens’ Hall, starting at 9am. It’s open for anyone to sell any items relating from pre-birth to teenagers. You drop off your named and priced items and we sell them on the day for only $5 all up, (not per item). So spend a couple of hours over the next few weeks having a sort out and make yourself a few dollars. Anything from trikes to T-shirts. For further information phone Fleur 525 6116.

Collingwood Old Post Office doors

What a nice idea of Reg Turner’s to help celebrate the splendid transformation of the Old Post Office building at Collingwood. I really like the thought of our community contributing towards restored doors that would become part of our revitalised streetscape.
Julia Griffiths took on a huge heritage project and responsibility when she bought the Old Post Office. Not long afterwards she warmly participated in events around its centenary in July 2006.  This is our opportunity to show we’re grateful for having such a well cared-for important historic building as part of our village. Many locals passed through its doors during the 80-odd years it was the post and telegraph office. It’s a lovely idea to be able to say “thank you” by making a donation towards some new doors when Julia and the Historic Places Trust have already done so much.
If you can’t get into Takaka to the BNZ, I’m willing to act as a courier; please phone me on 524 8112. There’s also a contributions box at the current Postal Services in Collingwood, right next door to the grand old one!
And, to clarify, this letter is totally unsolicited.
Penny Griffith
