Community health trusts

Given the just-announced financial failure of a community health trust in Taihape, it will be interesting to find how what quality of assurance can be given that the proposed trust for the planned Community Health Centre will not be possibly subject to a similar fate.
John Lee
Response from Andrew Swanson-Dobbs, CEO Nelson Bays Primary Health: The Interim Management Group has been observing Otaihape over the past several years and learned a great deal from its unfortunate experience.
Unlike Otaihape, the Golden Bay community will own the property but will not run the business. That will be run by NBPH, whose business and expertise is providing health care services.

12 Strands

Motupipi Hall has been swept clean, tidied and rests again in its quiet loveliness.
On behalf of the artists of the recent Farewell Spit Artist Residency, I would like to extend sincere thanks to all who supported the recent exhibit 12 Strands at Motupipi Hall. We were thrilled with the impressive Golden Bay crowd who attended the opening night.
In the week following, nearly 450 visitors and three classes from the Motupipi School came to enjoy the offerings of the 11 local artists. Your gold coin donations will help to fund the next group lucky to spend five days in that stunning place.
Very special thanks to the GB Arts Council, the Department of Conservation, Friends of Motupipi Hall, Leigh Gamby, Paddy Gillooly, and our families who have supported us throughout the residency and the creation of this exhibit. Gratitude also to my fellow artists for pitching in and all they brought to the process. It has been a pleasure and a great learning. Warnest regards from...

Multifunction Centre at the Recreation Park

Did you forget to send us your Wish List?  Don’t panic - it’s not too late. We are holding another meeting on Tuesday 7 December in the Rugby Club Rooms at 7pm, and we urge anyone who has an interest to come along.
If you want to see what other groups have said they would like up at the Recreation Park, a summary of the last meeting can be viewed at the Takaka Library or the Collingwood Post Office. A copy can also be viewed online at: <http://goldenbayfacility.blogspot.com/>
This is just a starting point for discussion. Not everyone’s wishes will be cost-effective, but it is really important that your group isn’t left out. Unless you come forward with what you want you won’t get it!
You can contact me on 525 6086 or Roger Tait on 525 9321.

Removal of tree

May I ask, why the destruction of the sweet-scented mauve-flowered tree in front of Harcourts? Was it in the way? Having just boxed it up, it seems a pity to destroy it. Are you going to plant one to replace it?
Zane Perry
Tasman District Council’s Community services manager, Lloyd Kennedy responded: The tree had to be removed because it was badly damaged in the fire that destroyed the old library building. It had always struggled in the raised box and we had to feed it pretty regularly to keep it going through the dry times, but the fire finished it off. Unfortunately we’re also monitoring the progress of the beautiful oak tree at the back of the site. The fire damaged it too but we hope we can save it.

Loss of tree

Goodbye to another large beautiful tree on the main street in Takaka, cut down Tuesday. Don’t stop to remember the seat in the welcome shade, or John Mitchell’s thoughtful plantings: the light might be too revealing.

Essential Pakawau safety equipment missing

To the person who helped themselves to our equipment at Pakawau. Could you please return our yellow Firman generator and yellow air command compressor, along with other equipment that you have taken. This equipment is essential to the safety and support of our business on Farewell Spit. Or if you have any information that could lead to its recovery, please contact the Takaka Police.

Rangihaeata Road

To the person(s) who let their dog roam free on Monday 15 November (last week), I am outraged! Your dog viciously attacked and killed eleven of my defenceless little breeding bantams. This was very upsetting and horrible to find and deal with. Since then, your dog has returned to our property, which I am irate about. So do your job as a dog owner and keep it secure on your property, to keep it off mine.

Free holiday

A big thank you to the Pohara Top 10 campground for our fabulous free weekend. What immaculate facilities. A real credit to the team out there. Many thanks.

Village Green noticeboard

The notice board was placed on the green with the kind permission of The Village Green Society and originally intended to advertise  community  events over the summer period hosted by GB Recreation and Heart Art, who actually paid for the board. This year the noticeboard has been made available throughout the year and has been well patronised.
However, with summer coming on, the noticeboard needs to be used once again for its intended purpose. Like the sign on the board says, if your organisation wishes to put up a poster for your community event, please contact me. I am happy to laminate and place your poster. I am happy to negotiate other posters if they are there for a short period and there is room. Please phone me on 525 8876 or recreation@gbcw.co.nz.
