A&P Show 2011 takes shape with a full programme and a new event
A&P Show 2011 takes shape with a glorious programme
With only a few weeks to go, the next Golden Bay A&P Show is starting to take shape and co-organiser Jean Wedderburn says entries are coming in thick and fast. Animal, produce and photography entries will close on 10th and 11th December at the Junction Hotel and final postal entries need to be in by 18 December.
“The show is popular with trade stand folk during the summer holiday and several new trades and businesses will be on show,” said Jean. Trade stand entries close on January 8.
The show would not be complete without the traditional cattle, sheep, goats and poultry judging from 9am to 12pm. Dairy cattle entries will be supplemented with beef cattle of various breeds on show and between the judging, dairy cattle and goats will be milked.
The always popular wood chopping, sheep shearing and wool handling competitions are not missing from this year’s programme, as well as horse showing and jumping, including miniature horses, western style horse riding and pony events throughout the day.
The popular display of vintage machinery and collectable cars will once again be present.
New to the show this year is the Synchronised Lawnmowing Competition, the cutting edge of lawn mowing entertainment, at 1pm, with a $700 mower as first prize sponsored by Golden Bay Mechanical.
“Teams of two will choose their own music and costumes and plan their own synchronised routine. The lawnmowers, not running, will be supplied on the day. The winners will be judged on fanciest dress and most entertaining routine. The entry fee of $20 per team will be donated to St John,” said Jean. “Get out your tutus and tights and enter this ‘serious’ competition that should create lots of fun and entertainment. Entries and guidelines are available from Golden Bay Mechanical.”
Moving from the Village Green to the showgrounds is Harcourts’ Annual Auction. This will run from 10am – 12pm with all proceeds going to the GB Search & Rescue. Once again Harcourts have been delighted with the offers of goods and vouchers for auction and items for sale from the community said Belinda Barnes.
While more entertainment and displays are still being finalised said Jean, confirmed bands
include the Madsen Brothers, the Takaka Citizens Band, the Motueka Highland Pipe Band, plus Adam Allsorts the clown and Sturgeons sideshows without which no A&P show would be complete.
Golden Bay A&P Show, Saturday 15 January 2011, opens its gate at 8am. Tickets are available now for $6 from Lindsays Clothing and Sport or $8 from the gate on show day. Catalogues will be available in the New Year.
