The GB Weekly would look better with a re-designed masthead.
The GB Weekly would look better with a re-designed masthead....
I support the installation of surveillance cameras in the Takaka CBD
I am generally satisfied with standards of service and presentation in Golden Bay businesses.
The Joan Whiting Home must be allowed to continue to operate until the integrated facilty is ready.
Bay businesses should specifically train their staff to provide good service.
Is it a good idea to continue to publish the tide chart in The GB Weekly?

As a result, it is on the site in three different locations - you will see them just to the right of here under the heading "Latest Discussion Articles". We apologise for this but we will be making sure that all votes are included in the analysis and all questions are forwarded to the IMG."
May 3rd, 2010 at 01:15 PMScott says "If the opportunity still exists for 'alternative & complementary' health practitioners to play an active part with the integrated health proposal, I whole-heartedly support it. Confirming John McKinlay's concern about "the absence of complementary and alternative healers", I feel uneasy as well. I'm surprised that Dr Clark said "that the complementary and alternative healers had been represented on the original steering group but they opted not to continue their involvement" because this is the first time I've known that any of us were consulted at all. However, this may have occured before I moved to Takaka four years ago and I'm eager that the opportunity be revisited with all registered holistic health practitioners currently active within Golden Bay, particularly those of us who are ACC treatment providers. I'm especially appreciating the online discussion forum that the GB Weekly is providing for public commentary. THANK YOU Marg & Neil!"
May 3rd, 2010 at 02:00 PMme says "town is the only realistic location for any new building no comprehensive study has been undertaken to assess the health needs of Golden Bay 4.3 staff will loose their jobs, including nurse and care givers which is a big concern if care is to be adaquate"
May 4th, 2010 at 11:59 AMtb says "I would like to know how joan Whiting will be any more viable in an integrated set up than it is now, and what will happen if it is still unviable. i also agree with me above."
May 7th, 2010 at 04:46 PMpm says "Our elderly need quality care and unstressed caregivers. Less staff means more work for everyone who is left and a decline in care."
May 9th, 2010 at 03:46 PMPaula says "I fully support the integrated health proposal and believe the community needs to get behind the group who have initiated this. The opportunity to secure a positive, viable solution for the future needs of Golden Bay should be encouraged. I look forward to the facility being available as soon as possible"
May 10th, 2010 at 12:34 PMUsually Silent. says " Let's look at the proposal objectively (not from a personal point of view,) & agree with what is best for Golden Bay in the future, not just what suits individuals now. And with all due respect to those who have transport concerns with the proposed location of the Medical Centre at the Hospital site---how, I wonder, do they access the hospital now, if they need either Physiotherapy Treatment or wish to visit patients ? "
May 10th, 2010 at 06:17 PMnatalie nalder says "right, well as i have been around the joan whiting resthome for a while, they are all lovly people, staff and residents, i believe that this health proposal is a seriously bad idea, and will lead to a whole big mistake. in europe and other countrys have tryed these intergrated hospital and it has got them no where. all the people living at joan whiting are enjoying there last years, its where they want to be. if they wanted to live in takaka, they would of chosen to stay there, not in collingwood!. so to the board, why are you only thinking of what goes into your pocket and the end of the week and not the thoughts and feelings of the residents and what you are taking away from the workers! at joan whiting they have a few of collingwood estuary have a lovly garden full of bright and beautiful rose's etc.. whats going to be so great about looking at a padock or a building in boring old takaka. and having them open to the sight of late night emergancys waking them up from there well needed rest! so, i beileve that this "proposal" is stupid and is going to affect a great load of people. thanks but no thanks."
May 11th, 2010 at 02:09 PMBay watcher says "Get on with it, look to the future and maybe its not perfect. Those of you that don't like will adapt and in 2 years time no will remember what all the fuss was about. You are a very lucky community as in most other towns and cities you just don't get any choice or input in to where and how services are to be provided."
May 16th, 2010 at 08:45 PMElizabeth says "We have concerns regarding the location of the facility. Despite the extra cost involved locating at Rototai we feel it would be cost effective in the long term. This by taking into consideration the additional costs of providing safe road access - ie walking paths, possibly a bridge etc plus providing transport for all those who live too far away and/or are incapable of walking that distance, plus young people from pre-schools and schools, it would be cost effective in the long run. Many of those who live within the Takaka township boundaries have moved there over many, many years, (plus locating pensioner flats and Abbeyfield) specifically so they can access medical services without needing to drive or walk long distances. There is even to be a pedestrian crossing installed soon so the Abbetfield people can cross the road to the Medical Centre safely. Many elderly Takaka residents have spoken to me regarding their grave concerns re locating at the hospital and asked me to speak on their behalf as they can't speak for themselves. I did this at one of the recent meetings but without any success. With the best will in the world, I don’t see how the Wrinklies Express could cope with the huge volumn of requests they will receive. Appointments are currently being made every 30 minutes throughout the day to see several doctors and nurses at any one time. Also regarding the Joan Whiting, if it isn’t viable in Collingwood, and, like several homes of it kind elsewhere, becomes un-viable as part of IMG, will this make the whole structure un-viable? If this happens will extra funding be made available to keep this type of service Bay? I have been told that a present there is no chance of finding 17 extra beds within the Nelson region, so if this service ceases to exist, will age care still be available here no matter what happens? "

Has I.M.G. obtained acurrent independant valuation? At $1.6 million this community is being ripped off by the District Health Board "
