Bay presence at Wellington show should have “long-term benefits”

Wellington’s Dominion Post described the Golden Bay as the “Jewel of New Zealand” after the recent Wellington Wine and Food Show (13-15 May).
Jan and Gerda Dissel from Anatoki Salmon were stallholders at the show and, along with their own promotional material they had brochures relating to all the accommodation providers and activities the Bay has to offer. As the Bay’s ambassadors they captured the attention of visitors with drinks of cool Takaka spring water, chocolate salmon and a beautiful quilt of the Bay, made by the Golden Bay Patchwork & Quilters’ Guild. Apparently everyone who visited the Golden Bay stand was amazed by the quilt’s beauty.
The Wellington Wine and Food Show is held annually at the Westpac Stadium and attracts more than 20,000 people each year. Visitors to the Golden Bay stall consumed more than 2500 pottles of water. It was obviously an ideal palate-cleanser for those sampling the variety of food and wine on offer.
More than a thousand visitors who left their their names and addresses will take part in a draw for a weekend in Golden Bay. The prize includes flights, accommodation, a rental car, meals and a Farewell Spit tour, and has been donated by The Golden Bay Promotions Association, GB Air, Twin Waters Lodge, Farewell Spit Tours, The Mussel Inn, The Dangerous Kitchen and Anatoki Salmon. The draw will be conducted at the annual general meeting of Golden Bay Promotions on 8 June.
“The people who gave us their names and addresses at the show wanted to hear more about what Golden Bay has to offer,” said GB Promotions chair Jane Dixon. “Our exposure in Wellington should have big long-term benefits for Golden Bay.”
Meanwhile GB Promotions is finalising details for its 2010/11 Visitor Guide. The print run will be 50,000 this year, enough to satisfy demand throughout the country.
“Last year we printed 30,000 and distributed them across the Top of the South,” said Jane. “But we get requests from all over New Zealand for our Visitor Guide so we’re printing more and going nationwide next season, mostly through visitor centres. The broader coverage will be good for our advertisers and for the Bay as a whole.
“Dagmar at Montage Design is taking bookings from people who want to advertise in the new guide but space is limited and we’re going to print next month, so anyone thinking of advertising should get in touch with Dagmar pretty quickly.”
