Design and make jewellery course

The photo above shows four pieces of jewellery completed at a recent course.
They are: brooch - lily (pure silver with handmade glass stamen) by Lesley McIver; bracelet (sterling silver with paua inset) by Nadia Haisty; pendant (brass in top half with sterling silver overlay, with another overlay of copper in the bottom half and an amber stone set in the centre) by Elvira Pontier; brooch (sterling silver ‘U’ with copper, silver centred forget-me-nots) by Mary Ann Tait.
The course took place at the Golden Bay Work Centre over four days in July and August, and tutor Duncan Mackay showed the participants traditional metal-smithing techniques and encouraged them to realise their own designs.
“ I really like working with people with different styles, ideas and approaches,” says Duncan. “It’s interesting. They come up with a design and its over to me to guide them through the processes to make their design work out. It’s technically challenging. I always learn things myself by helping other people to learn. I think the pieces came out really well.”
