Local elections
Paul Sangster’s stated reasons for standing for council (Article 13/8) need to be questioned.
Apart from the likely illegal targeted rate on communities with community boards, we have mostly had a positive relationship with TDC during the past six years. Bridges are generally in good repair. We have worked with residents replacing the Anatoki Track road bridge. Other replacements include Devils Boots, McCallum Rd and Uruwhenua bridges. Safety barriers have been built on the approaches to the Aorere Bridge at Rockville among others. There is a new footbridge at Collingwood and bridge replacements due for Pakawau and Awaroa.
Recent projects include the Pohara path, library car park and Collingwood boat ramp trailer park, together with extensive upgrades of the shonky sewerage system installed under the watch of previous councils. Land use and facilities planning is also underway.
We need to be wary of returning to the divisiveness of the past which saw such things as the contentious sale of the key Port Tarakohe office property. By reaching decisions through considerate, inclusive consensus we recall only one dissenting board vote recorded among the hundreds made during the past six years.
What a difference to the years prior to 2004.
Joe Bell Chairperson, Golden Bay Community Board
Thank you
A big thank you to all my friends and the Golden Bay community for your continuing support to me as an artist. My photographic works are currently being exhibited at the GB Medical Centre as well as the Richmond Library until the end of this month. Many thanks again to all.

Price Of Milk
Apologies to all the entertainers who would have liked to have performed at the Price Of Milk variety concert on 4 September at The Village Theatre. This is a popular event, spots fill quickly and we like to give new people in the Bay a chance to perform. However I am planning a similar event at the Pohara hall over the summer. Please contact me to register your interest on 525 8876.

Whitebait
Bravo, DOC, on your latest conservation measure, putting an announcement on the radio that whitebait are an endangered species and advising people to only take what they need.
With large sums of cash and greedy people involved, you’ve got a snowball’s chance in hell of that working. The use of large trap nets and screens is encouraging people to take more with less effort.
The only thing you might achieve with this initiative is to give Tui something to put on their latest billboard: Only take what you need – yeah right.

Apology
Apologies to Mike and the SICON boys regarding my letter (13/08). I have been assured that it was not them disposing of green waste in the Aorere River. Apparently they don’t come out to Collingwood. How sad - they don’t know what they are missing. I promise to have my eyes tested in the near future!
