Based above the organic shop, physiotherapist Tudor Burchill says he offers a great central location, flexible hours and his own blend of manual physiotherapy, sports massage, acupuncture and Pilates.
Tudor holds a BA in physiotherapy from Otago University and a certificate in acupuncture from the Auckland University of Technology. He worked for 18 months in a busy Pilates/physiotherapy clinic in Auckland before moving to Takaka.
A keen outdoors person, he  first started exploring the Bay from a rocklimber’s perspective at Payne’s Ford before deciding to make his final move to Golden Bay in December last year.
Tudor says of himself that he is a manual hands-on physiotherapist emphasising “critical movement analysis and, as far as rehabilitation goes, a good exercise prescription. You don’t have to do much exercise, maybe five minutes a day, but it has to be consistent.”
He says that times are quite tough for physiotherapists since the last ACC changes were introduced, but that his client base is slowly increasing by mouth-to-mouth advertising and doctor-based referrals.
“What has changed mainly is the way physiotherapists approach the use of their time. The government has basically wiped the extended rates for longer sessions and now we are asked to spend less time with a client. I am fully ACC accredited and can initiate ACC claims, so people don’t need a doctor’s referral if they want to see a physiotherapist.”
Tudor will be at this week’s market to give “taster” massages for $5. Tudor Burchill can be contacted at Payne’s Physiotherapy on 021 207 6256.
