The new branch of Nelson Building Society (NBS) in Takaka is expected to be operational by the end of October. The on-going growth of NBS has encouraged it to expand into Golden Bay.
“We already have a good base of retail and business banking customers in Golden Bay,” said NBS general manager Ken Beams, “and we are pleased to be able to provide a full branch service to personal, business and agribusiness customers.
“NBS is such a good fit for a community-minded area like Golden Bay. We’re owned by our customers and give a large percentage of our profits back to community. We think that model has the potential to attract a lot of new customers.”
The new branch will be managed by Dean Lund, ex-BNZ agri-business manager, who has lived and worked in the Bay for many years. Dean is joined by Marlla Heuvel, also an ex-BNZ staff member who until recently, managed their retail business in Takaka.
Mr Beams said, “We couldn’t be happier to have Dean and Marlla on board. They are both experienced banking professionals, well respected in the community. One of the key points of difference for NBS is to have skilled local people who are empowered to make decisions and provide the best service to customers.”
The new branch will be located at 41 Commercial Street, previously occupied by Mondo Travel.
The expansion of the NBS branch network into Golden Bay is a long-term commitment to providing local and personalised banking services.
The new Takaka Branch will give the network seven branches in the region. NBS manages $550 million in funds and offers a full range of banking products and services. They are New Zealand’s oldest Building Society, celebrating their 150th anniversary next year.
