The Golden Bay Quilters Annual Quilt Show will again be heald at Collingwood Memorial Hall at Labour weekend, October 22-24 inclusive.
This year they have been fortunate to acquire the 2011 Aotearoa Quilters’ annual Travelling Exhibition of exquisite quilts to include in their show before it travels to the Minerva Gallery in Wellington. This is a unique opportunity to view these beautiful quilts in our area.
This year, Aotearoa Quilters challenged quilters throughout New Zealand to interpret the theme On The Surface in a quilt only 50cm high  x 100cm wide. Only 20 quilts were selected for this national challenge, which will travel within New Zealand for approximately 12 months. The quilts were judged on each individual’s interpretation of the challenge theme, its overall appearance, the originality expressed, use of colour and visual impact. Technical quality is also important.
In addition, the GB Quilters Annual Show will feature recent quilts made by local quilters, its Annual Charity Raffle Quilt (see photo below) and our own Quilt Challenge, which will give viewers an opportunity to guess the title of a book represented by a small quilt.
Winners will be announced at the end of the show, which will be open between 10am and 7.30pm on Saturday 22 October and between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 October. A gold coin entry fee will apply.
