Police report

2 November: A Singaporean tourist was fined for undertaking a TNL truck on Eureka Bend, Takaka. Nobody was injured in the ensuing crash.
2 November: A 20-year-old Takaka male was charged with wilful damage after smashing the drinks vending machine in Commercial Street over the weekend. The same male, along with two of his associates, was issued a $150 fine for failing to keep left following erratic driving on the Totaranui Road.
5 November: A 21-year-old Takaka male was arrested and issued a pre-charge warning for disorderly behaviour outside the Roots Bar. He climbed on a vehicle causing substantial damage.
Between 4 and 5 November an Apple laptop computer, Freeview decoder and two pairs of sunglasses were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Tarakohe wharf.
8 November: A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old local male overturned while negotiating an easy right-hand bend on Parapara causeway. The driver and 18-year-old passenger received minor injuries.  The driver was charged with aggravated careless driving and refusing to provide a blood sample when required. He will appear in the Nelson District Court on the 19 December. His licence has been suspended in the interim.
A copper header tank was reported stolen from the DOC hostel at the Cobb Lake sometime in late October.
11 November: Five tulip-shaped solar lights that change colours were reported stolen from a secure yard in Commercial Street.
12 November: At 3am six teenagers sparked a full scale Search and Rescue callout after becoming grossly intoxicated, consuming cannabis and being unable to locate one of their number on Pohara Beach. Further enquiries revealed that two 14-year-old males had burgled two properties in Pohara, and stolen alcohol and condoms. They are going through the Youth Justice system in an effort to hold them accountable but avoid criminal convictions. The remaining teenagers are being warned for theft (of alcohol) and consuming cannabis and are being held accountable by their parents.
This was a very scary ordeal for all concerned, including these youngsters. They had organised to meet up late at night via text message and all waited until the adults were asleep before sneaking out of their homes. This is becoming an increasing problem within this age group nationally. We have seen in the news the potential tragic consequences. Let’s try and help our kids avoid making dumb decisions. A suggestion to all parents would be to require your children and anyone staying at your house in your care to hand over their cellphones at bedtime.
Next year Takaka Police and the Community Workers are hoping to bring to the Bay a seminar run by the INP on “Safeguarding Children and Young people”. We hope all parents, teachers, healthcare workers and anyone who have dealings with our mokupuna, will attend.
12 November: A 31-year-old Collingwood male was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol and will appear in court on the 28 November after being found semi-concious at the wheel on Collingwood-Bainham Main Road.
16 November: Three 14-year-old males have been dealt with, following disorderly behaviour in Takaka township at 1.00am.
18 November: A vehicle crashes and overturns at the Fonterra Takaka corner. Two occupants, nil injuries. One male seen decamping from the scene and yet to be spoken to. Investigation continuing, charges likely.
18 November: A blood sample was taken from a suspected drugged driver. Awaiting ESR analysis.
19 November: A 50-year-old Collingwood local was charged with intimidation and assault after an incident in Rockville. He will appear in the Nelson District Court on 22 December.
19 November: A 22-year-old local male was arrested and issued a pre-charge warning for threatening language after retaliating to the above incident.
19 November: A 21-year-old Takaka male was arrested and issued a pre-charge warning for trespass and fighting following an incident in a local licenced premise.
19 November: A 48-year-old Takaka male was warned for fighting in relation to the above incident.
19 November: A group of 15- and 16-year-old Takaka males ran from Police at 2.10am in Commercial Street after the youths threw fireworks into an enclosed bar’s courtyard. A 16-year-old is going through the youth justice system as a result.
19 November: An unwell 26-year-old German tourist was rescued off rocks near the Abel Tasman Memorial by a passing boatie. The following day she was forced to seek medical assistance with the help of Rural Mental Health.
19 November: Four teenagers were found trespassing in the GBHS swimming pool at 9pm. They were taken home.
