The Takaka Athletics season started with a blast with six club records being broken at the Hester Shield Interclub Competition on 13 November at the new Saxton Oval complex.
We couldn’t have asked for better weather and we were lucky to stay under cover with our very smart new named gazebo funded by Pub Charity. The Takaka team of 17 athletes competed very strong with many placings and the club was placed second overall.
The new long jump pit at the high school grounds is near completion. With help of some funding from TDC Grants from Rates and a lot of club voluntary time the old volley court was converted into two pits.
The Colgate games is at Saxton Oval this year, it hasn’t been in Nelson since 2007 so it is great for our athletes to not travel so far and to send a bigger team along, we are able enter relay teams this time as other years we haven’t had enough athletes.
The club has extended the age to grade 15 to keep them involved with athletics. We welcome any more children wishing to join athletics, to come along to our club night on Monday at 5pm at the Golden Bay High School grounds and register.
Congratulations to the athletes who competed at the recent Interclub Hester Shield competition on Sunday 13 Nov 2011.
